Vietnam 1-0 Philippines: Dinh Bac scores, debutants offer hope for coach Kim Sang Sik

Vietnam beat the Philippines 1-0 thanks to Dinh Bac's 25th-minute goal, extending their unbeaten run to 27 matches. The performance, however, left coach Kim Sang Sik with clear concerns. After taking the lead, Vietnam dropped too deep, surrendered control of the game and relied on goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang, the crossbar and poor finishing from the Philippines to keep the clean sheet. The low defensive block reduced the number of players available for transitions, limiting Vietnam's attempts to add a second goal. Despite the flaws, the debuts of Adou Minh, Khoa Ngo and Williams Minh Hoang offered encouragement. Adou Minh was solid at centre-back alongside Viet Anh and Xuan Manh. Khoa Ngo, on as a 70th-minute substitute, gave the attack more variety. Minh Hoang, aged 19, produced the decisive contribution, accelerating down the wing before his cross deflected in off a defender for Dinh Bac. Although the goal involved fortune, Minh Hoang's intelligent movement and technique deserved reward. Standing 1.90 meters tall, he played on the right wing because Xuan Son occupied the central striker role. With Xuan Son now out through injury, Minh Hoang may be asked to take a bigger scoring role. Another start against Thailand would not be a surprise. One match is not enough to judge the newcomers, but they give Kim fresh options as he continues reshuffling a largely familiar group.
