Nintendo Direct 2026: Series of New Games Promise to Ignite Esports Community

The recent Nintendo Direct event has brought a wave of information that excited gamers worldwide, especially the esports community in Vietnam. Although no tournaments or teams were announced directly, the lineup of blockbuster titles revealed paints an ambitious picture for the future of Nintendo on the console market and its esports potential. The most notable highlight is the remake of the legend The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, described as 'long-awaited'. With the 40-year history of the Zelda franchise, Nintendo is leveraging this milestone to stir fans. This is not only a gift for RPG fans but also an opportunity for speedrun tournament organizers – a highly attractive branch of esports – to gain new material. Ocarina of Time was once the 'king of speedruns' for many years, and the Switch 2 remake promises to set new world records. The biggest surprise came from the Final Fantasy series with Final Fantasy VII: Revelation and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. The appearance of these two games on the Nintendo platform marks a turning point in cooperation between Square Enix and Nintendo, opening the possibility of organizing PvP tournaments based on the combat mechanics of the series – a missing piece in the Switch ecosystem. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a strong signal for the tactical strategy genre, which already has a foothold in esports thanks to head-to-head tournaments. With turn-based gameplay and a rich class system, this game could become a platform for top-tier tactical competitions, especially when combined with the new online features Nintendo is developing for Switch 2. Mario Kart World and Metroid Ravenous offer two different directions: arcade racing and action shooting. Mario Kart has always been one of the most popular racing games in grassroots tournaments, and the new Switch 2 version promises better graphics and more complex tracks. Meanwhile, Metroid Ravenous could become a 'dark horse' for the battle royale or arena genre if Nintendo cleverly integrates multiplayer modes. The Metroid speedrun community will also get new playgrounds. Kirby and the World Beyond (expected 2027) and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam are light puzzle and adventure games. Although they may not directly target esports, they add diversity to the game library – a key factor in attracting a wide range of players and thus nurturing the community long-term.
