Three-man defense in V.League: Fear disguised as tactics

I still remember the cold feeling when I heard a coach tell his assistant: "Today we play with three defenders to be safe". Not because three center-backs are wrong, but because the reason "to be safe" sounds like a prayer, not a plan. In Vietnamese football, more and more teams are falling into this trap. They forget that convincing football doesn't come from crowding the box, but from having the courage to occupy space. I have seen too many Vietnamese coaches use a three-man defense to protect their job instead of improving the game. The numbers may say it reduces goals, but my eyes tell me it kills creativity. Van Toan, Quang Hai, Hoang Duc — these players need space, not extra defenders. I might be wrong, but the trend in V.League reveals a deep fear. Fear of losing, fear of being sacked, and fear of having to explain real tactics. Football is about risk and reward. If you hide behind three center-backs, you will never discover what this generation could achieve.
